National Coming Out Day: Owning Our Spaces
Queer Undocumented Immigrant Project (QUIP) Opens Safe Space to Discuss Diversity in Sexual Orientations.
Phoenix, Arizona. Queer Undocumented Immigrant Project (QUIP), a chapter of the Arizona Dream Act Coalition will host a National Coming Out Event. October 11th is an internationally observed civil awareness day celebrating individuals who publicly identify as bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender~ coming out regarding one’s sexual orientation and or gender being akin to a cultural rite of passage for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) people.
Through sharing their stories, QUIP will honor this date by educating the community about the issues the LGBT immigrant community is facing.
“Today is National Coming Out Day and today we “come out” as UndocuQueers by launching QUIP’s “Owning Our Spaces” campaign. Today we claim our identities as UndocuQueers and Queer immigrants and we ask you UndocuQueers, LGBTQ immigrants, and allies to do the same. Our goals with this visibility campaign is to inform, educate and empower our communities about who we are and the issues that are important to us,” said National QUIP Leader, Jorge Gutierrez.

Queer Undocumented Immigrant Project (QUIP) is a chapter of The Arizona Dream Act Coalition. QUIP’s mission is to create alliances between the LGBTQ and immigrant rights movements, as well as continue to build power, create change in communities, and harness power to win policy changes on issues that affect both groups.
